Baseball Game Preview: Newport - Bellevue Knights vs. Mount Si Wildcats

The Newport - Bellevue Knights will square off against the Mount Si Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Monday just wasn't the day for Newport - Bellevue's offense. They fell just short of Woodinville by a score of 2-0 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered against the Falcons since April 8, 2019.

Max Higbee was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Mount Si duked it out with North Creek on Monday. Mount Si fell just short of North Creek by a score of 7-6. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Jaguars: they've now lost three in a row.

Mount Si also got a good showing from Jayce Riden, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Riden has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Tucker Koval and Chase Mentink did some serious damage despite the final result: Koval went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Mentink went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Koval a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Gregory, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Newport - Bellevue's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Mount Si, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Newport - Bellevue skirted past Mount Si 2-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Newport - Bellevue repeat their success, or does Mount Si have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
