Baseball Recap: Chesapeake Victorious

Chesapeake took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Dawson-Bryant, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Panthers won by a run and slipped past the Hornets 8-7.

Peyton Muncy made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. He is becoming a predictor of Chesapeake's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 5-10 when he doesn't). Muncy was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Budd, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted over his last seven contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan White, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Chesapeake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chesapeake's record now sits at 8-11. As for Dawson-Bryant, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
