Volleyball Recap: East Chicago Central Takes a Loss

East Chicago Central extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 1-7. They lost 3-0 to the Westville Blackhawks. If the Cardinals were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Blackhawks when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Lela Edmonds paced East Chicago Central's offense, picking up three kills. Edmonds really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with three. Finally, she was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high seven blocks.

As for Westville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. That looming 3-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Westville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Myleigh Weaver, who had five kills, four digs, and two aces. Weaver is crushing it when it comes to aces: she's served at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Cameron Bietry was another key player, getting seven digs and two aces.

Coming up, East Chicago Central will square off against Thornridge at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Westville, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 win against DeMotte Christian on the 26th.
