Baseball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Tampa Catholic

Tampa Catholic put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against the Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate Phoenix as the Tampa Catholic Crusaders made off with an 18-1 win. With that victory, the Crusaders brought their scoring average up to 8 runs per game.

Drew Dunlop looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Cal Johnson was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. He also put up two doubles, which werehis first of the season. Daniel Smythe was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double.

Tampa Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Tampa Catholic's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tampa Catholic will venture away from home to square off against Indian Rocks Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Tampa Catholic's pitching crew has only allowed 1.8 runs per game this season, so Indian Rocks Christian's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate, they will take on Seffner Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
