Drake Perry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over 5.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyler Perkins, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Nolan McVay also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Portland took on Greenbrier on Wednesday. The Panthers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bobcats 6-4. Six seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Portland let Tristan Calvert and Cayden Lane run wild. Calvert went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Lane went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Lane has become a key player for Portland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-14 otherwise. JJ Shrumm was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Sycamore's record now sits at 5-13. As for Portland, their record is now 9-14.

Sycamore came out on top in a nail-biter against Portland when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the War Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
