Basketball Recap: Refugio Piles Up the Points Against Pettus

Refugio won the last time they faced Pettus and things went their way on Monday too. The Refugio Bobcats blew past the Pettus Eagles 74-38. The Bobcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Refugio to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bradi Fox-Smith, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. Fox-Smith has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 20 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jazaelynne Lewis, who posted 16 points along with six steals and five rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Pettus saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hayleigh Cruz scored 21 points and four steals. That was a full 55.3% of Pettus' points, marking the seventh time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Miranda Monson was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 boards.

Refugio's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Pettus, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 15 of their last 18 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.

Refugio has already played their next contest, a 41-38 win against Yorktown on the 24th. As for Pettus, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-37 victory against Woodsboro on the 24th.
