Basketball Game Preview: Fortune Early College Panthers vs. Argonaut Mustangs

The Fortune Early College Panthers will take on the Argonaut Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Fortune Early College comes in on eight and Argonaut on five.

Fortune Early College is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 79-49 win over Westlake Charter. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matches by 30 points or more this season.

Fortune Early College's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malachi Hollingsworth, who posted 14 points and six assists. Those six assists gave Hollingsworth a new career-high. Mekhi Tanner was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Hollingsworth wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Fortune Early College was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 21 assists in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Argonaut got the win against Big Valley Christian on Friday by a conclusive 73-52. The Mustangs pushed the score to 65-38 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lions cut but never quite recovered from.

Argonaut pushed their record up to 24-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.0 points over those games. As for Fortune Early College, their win bumped their record up to 21-7.

Everything went Fortune Early College's way against Argonaut in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, as Fortune Early College made off with a 74-53 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fortune Early College since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
