The Porter Cowboys will head out on the road to square off against the Harlingen South Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Porter's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Harlingen South's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Porter came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 9-3 to Weslaco East. The Cowboys' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Mia Sosa spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Gabby Sosa was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Miley Cortez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Harlingen South). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Donna a 19-0 shutout on Friday. The Hawks have beaten the Redskins the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Redskins has come to flipping the script.
Kailee Silva made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Silva was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jaylin Mata was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kara Jensen was another key player, scoring four runs while going 4-for-4.
Harlingen South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .758. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Harlingen South's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Porter, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Porter has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Harlingen South struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Porter suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to Harlingen South when the teams last played back in March. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
