Basketball Recap: Monroe Academy Volunteers vs. Bessemer Academy Rebels
This season hasn't been kind to the Monroe Academy Volunteers, who are still winless after their eighth contest. They were beaten by Bessemer Academy 86-31 on Thursday. Monroe Academy has struggled against the Rebels recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bessemer Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jackson Rinehart, who scored 13 points along with four steals. Rinehart hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnathan Winston, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Monroe Academy dropped their record down to 0-8 with that loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Bessemer Academy, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 20-1.
Monroe Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Senators at 4:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Morgan Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday. As for Bessemer Academy, they will be playing at home against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fort Dale Academy is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
