Basketball Game Preview: Huntington North Vikings vs. Bellmont Braves

Huntington North has gone 8-2 against Bellmont recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Huntington North Vikings will head out to challenge the Bellmont Braves at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Huntington North's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.

Huntington North is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Fort Wayne North Side just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 77-65 to the Legends.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Blaine Freiburger, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. Ethan Zahn was another key player, putting up 15 points in addition to seven assists and six boards.

Even though they lost, Huntington North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne North Side only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, Bellmont hadn't done well against Fort Wayne Northrop recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Bellmont managed a 53-49 victory over Fort Wayne Northrop. The win was some much needed relief for the Braves as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Bellmont's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11. As for Huntington North, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Huntington North came up short against Bellmont in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 62-50. Can Huntington North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
