Football Recap: Angelo Renda's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southlake Carroll over Desoto

Southlake Carroll and DeSoto squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Southlake Carroll had to settle for second. They fell 57-44 to the Eagles. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Dragons, who until this matchup were averaging 12.53 points allowed.

Southlake Carroll's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angelo Renda, who threw for 282 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 55 yards. Thanks to that big game, Renda is now up to 46 passing touchdowns on the season. Davis Penn was another key rusher, rushing for 202 yards and one score on only 12 carries.

Legend Howell was a one-man wrecking crew For DeSoto. as he threw for 344 yards and three TDs while completing 74.1% of his passes, and also rushed for 49 yards. Those 49 rushing yards gave Howell a new career-high. Courtly'On Jackson did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 132 receiving yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Southlake Carroll fell to 14-1. As for DeSoto, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 12-3.

Southlake Carroll does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for DeSoto, they will head out to face off against King at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,404 yards in their previous games.
