Softball Recap: Pope Francis Prep Snags Sixth Victory in Last Seven Games

Pope Francis Prep won the last time they faced Putnam Vo-Tech and things went their way on Monday too. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Beavers with a sharp 32-7 win. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by 14 runs or more this season.

Julia Bonfitto made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Gianna Percy was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Taylor Moreau, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.

Pope Francis Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .840. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Pope Francis Prep is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.9 runs over those games. As for Putnam Vo-Tech, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pope Francis Prep will head out to challenge Amherst-Pelham Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Putnam Vo-Tech, they will venture away from home to face off against Smith Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
