Recap: North Canyon Rattlers vs. Fairfax Stampede

Even though the North Canyon Rattlers have not done well against the Fairfax Stampede recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, North Canyon made off with a 56-55 win over the Stampede. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Canyon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Adams, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine steals. Adams is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lanaya McCloud, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Several Stampede players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Melanie Romero, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 assists. It was the first time this season that Romero posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaya Harris, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds.

North Canyon now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Fairfax, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9.

North Canyon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on January 25th. Metro Tech has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 5. As for Fairfax, they will head out on the road to take on the Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Mountain will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
