Softball Recap: Albuquerque Academy Victorious

Albuquerque Academy saw some tournament action on Friday. They came out on top against the Kirtland Central Broncos by a score of 13-8. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.

Melissa Purcella made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Albuquerque Academy got a massive performance out of Addie Spratley, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Spratley's first of the season. Sydney Koranyi was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

Albuquerque Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Kirtland Central, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Coming up, Albuquerque Academy will take on Silver at 10:50 a.m. on Saturday. Albuquerque Academy's pitchers better be ready for this one: Silver has averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Kirtland Central, they will be taking part in a tournament against East Mountain at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday. Kirtland Central is facing East Mountain at the right time seeing as East Mountain is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
