Softball Recap: Polk County Comes Up Short

Polk County had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-15 to make it nine. They came up short against the York Dukes, falling 13-3. If the Slammers were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Dukes when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Polk County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mady Berggren, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

As for York, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-11 record this season. Considering they have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On York's side, the team relied heavily on Andi Winterrowd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Winterrowd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ayanna Miller, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.

Polk County has already played their next contest, a 10-5 defeat against Blue River on the 25th. As for York, they will be playing at home against Lexington at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
