Basketball Recap: Westville Takes a Loss

Westville and Marquette Catholic squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Westville had to settle for second. They took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marquette Catholic Blazers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blackhawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-42 back in December of 2024.

Leading Marquette Catholic to victory were Marissa Pleasant and Laniah Davis. Pleasant went 7 for 14 on her way to 22 points, while Davis almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Pleasant has posted since back in December of 2023. Natalie Robinson was another key player, putting up six points and nine boards.

Westville's defeat dropped their record down to 21-3. As for Marquette Catholic, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 20-4.

Westville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marquette Catholic, they and Washington Township will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Marquette Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.2 points per game this season.
