Baseball Game Preview: South Fremont Cougars vs. Teton Timberwolves

South Fremont is 8-2 against Teton since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Timberwolves at 4:00 p.m. South Fremont will be strutting in after a victory while Teton will be coming in after a loss.

South Fremont barely beat Filer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars blew past the Wildcats 10-1 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Colter Hansen made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of South Fremont's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 8-11 when he doesn't). Hansen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Bryce Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. South Fremont is 2-1 when Johnson posts two or more stolen bases, but 9-11 otherwise. Jordan Hammond was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Teton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 20-1 to Sugar-Salem.

Teton's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for South Fremont, their win bumped their record up to 11-12.

South Fremont's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Cougars have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Teton, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will South Fremont continue to outrun the ball?

South Fremont came out on top in a nail-biter against Teton when the teams last played on Tuesday, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
