Volleyball Recap: Channel Islands Falls Despite Big Games from Brandon Romero and Riley Luna

Channel Islands lost against Rio Mesa back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Channel Islands took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rio Mesa. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-13, 23-25, 25-15.

Riley Luna and Brandon Romero certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Luna had 17 digs and one assist, while Romero had 12 kills and eight digs. Romero is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had nine or more in each of the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. Gabriel Malit also deserves some recognition as he had his first kill of the season.

Channel Islands' defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Rio Mesa, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Channel Islands will square off against Malibu at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Rio Mesa, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ventura at 5:00 p.m. on April 1.
