Sahuaro has gone 7-0 against Desert View recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. Having just played yesterday, the Sahuaro Cougars will jump right back in to play the Desert View Jaguars at 10:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sahuaro has five straight wins, Desert View has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Sahuaro's tournament run continued when they took on Marcos de Niza on Friday. Sahuaro took their contest with ease, bagging a 50-17 victory over Marcos de Niza. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 26 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Carly Coolidge, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Harmony Twito, who posted seven points and four steals.
Sahuaro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Desert View duked it out withCasa Grande on December 12th. Desert View took a hard 46-28 fall against Casa Grande.
Sahuaro will need focus on slowing down Solana Celaya, one of several Desert View players who made an impact when they last played. She put up two points in addition to seven rebounds, four blocks, and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrea Cervantes, who had six points and eight boards.
Sahuaro is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.8 points per game. As for Desert View, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sahuaro has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Desert View struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.4 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Sahuaro against Desert View in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, as the team secured an 80-15 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sahuaro since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
