Recap: Bessemer Academy Rebels vs. Cornerstone Christian Chargers
The Bessemer Academy Rebels fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They were the clear victor by a 45-22 margin over Cornerstone Christian. The win was all the more spectacular given Bessemer Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Cornerstone Christian is ranked sixth).
Bessemer Academy can attribute much of their success to Tyseon Smith, who picked up 136 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a rushing score. Luke Turner was another key contributor, throwing for 170 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 passes.
Cornerstone Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Zeke Adams, who threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only ten passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Schober, who picked up 119 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Bessemer Academy's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Cornerstone Christian, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-1.
Bessemer Academy will head out on the road to face off against Autauga Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cornerstone Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
