Baseball Game Preview: Reed Raiders vs. Spanish Springs Cougars

Reed and Spanish Springs are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. Reed will head out on the road to square off against Spanish Springs at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Reed proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Damonte Ranch 3-2. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Chase Spencer tossed a big game, striking out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Bailey Moss was excellent, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3. Nicholas Leonard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.

While Spanish Springs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top in a nail-biter against McQueen on Tuesday, sneaking past 6-4.

Spanish Springs also got a great performance from Cole Schaffer as he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Landon Pahang, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Dylan Kawachi was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Reed now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Spanish Springs, their record is now 9-4.

Everything went Reed's way against Spanish Springs in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Reed made off with an 11-1 victory. Will Reed repeat their success, or does Spanish Springs has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
