Baseball Game Preview: Lake Braddock Bruins vs. West Springfield Spartans

Lake Braddock and West Springfield are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2023, but likely not for long. The Bruins will challenge the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Lake Braddock's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so West Springfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Lake Braddock is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past Mount Vernon 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Leo Dell'Omo tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

At the plate, Lake Braddock got a big performance out of Henry Mahns, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Mahns has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Evan Chambers, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, West Springfield came tearing into Saturday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 5-0 win.

West Springfield's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Braddock, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-11 record this season.

Lake Braddock couldn't quite finish off West Springfield when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 4-2. Can the Bruins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
