Basketball Recap: Bulloch Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Pinewood Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bulloch Academy). Everything went their way against the Pinewood Christian Patriots on Tuesday as the Bulloch Academy Gators made off with a 74-52 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 71-43 two weeks ago.

Bulloch Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Akiryon Watkins led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Watkins is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Ike Hubbard was another key player, putting up 16 points and three steals.

Bulloch Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Pinewood Christian lost, don't look at Banks Hearn. Despite the final result, he posted 30 points. That was a full 57.7% of Pinewood Christian's points, marking the 18th time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddox Akins, who had eight points.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Bulloch Academy, bringing their record for this year to 8-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Pinewood Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bulloch Academy has already played their next game (against Westminster Schools of Augusta), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pinewood Christian will be playing at home against St. Andrew's at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in St. Andrew's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matchups.
