Baseball Game Preview: Radford Bobcats vs. George Wythe Maroons

The Radford Bobcats will challenge the George Wythe Maroons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. George Wythe took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Radford, who comes in off a win.

Radford not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 18, 2024. They were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over Giles.

Jackson Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Johnson was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Joyce, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, nine RBI, and three stolen bases. Tanner Rodgers was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Radford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Giles only posted an OBP of .400.

Meanwhile, George Wythe unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rural Retreat on Friday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 17 in a row.
