Softball Recap: Wheeler Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Wheeler got themselves on the board against Lake Station Edison on Tuesday, but Lake Station Edison never followed suit. They blew past the Fighting Eagles 13-0. Considering the Bearcats have won seven matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nora Howell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Olivia Hessling was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Allen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Wheeler always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .862. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Wheeler has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Lake Station Edison, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeler will square off against Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake Station Edison, they will face off against River Forest at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
