Softball Recap: Holy Cross Has No Trouble Against Fairdale

Holy Cross had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 7-10 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Fairdale Bulldogs. Considering the Cougars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Breelyn Willett made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Willett was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alyssa Priddy was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Fries, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Holy Cross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fairdale only posted an OBP of .222.

As for Fairdale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Fairdale's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brooke Higdon, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Holy Cross has already played their next game, a 22-3 win against Valley on the 9th. As for Fairdale, they will square off against Glasgow at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
