Softball Recap: Northwest Rankin Extends Road Winning Streak to 20

Northwest Rankin had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Brandon Bulldogs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Grace Wallis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Wallis was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Hannah Sullivan was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. Jaliya Sullivian was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Northwest Rankin's win was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.0 runs this season. As for Brandon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Northwest Rankin Cougars face off against Petal Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Rankin's pitchers better be ready for this one: Petal has averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Brandon, they will take on Meridian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
