Recap: Southern Alamance Patriots vs. Falls Lake Firebirds
The Southern Alamance Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Falls Lake by a score of 50-47. While losing is never fun, Southern Alamance can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while Falls Lake is ranked 49th).
Southern Alamance's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Brouillard, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brouillard has scored all season. Morgan Isley was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Emerson Thompson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Falls Lake, dropping a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Thompson has scored at least a third of Falls Lake's points. Another player making a difference was Madison Oakley, who scored six points along with five assists.
Southern Alamance has fallen quite a ways from their 20-9 record last season and are now at 4-8. As for Falls Lake, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Southern Alamance won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Cedar Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Cedar Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 last Tuesday. As for Falls Lake, Falls Lake and Varsity Opponent will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
