Football Recap: Clarkson/Leigh Piles Up the Points Against Newman Grove/St. Edward

Clarkson/Leigh entered their tilt with Newman Grove/St. Edward on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They breezed past the Panthers to the tune of 66-18. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Patriots just coasted through the last quarter.

Clarkson/Leigh had a senior duo take command as Wyatt Crosley rushed for 161 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries and Tucker Matthies gained 166 total yards and four touchdowns. With that strong performance, Crosley is now averaging an impressive 105.4 rushing yards per game. Corey Steffensmeier got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Clarkson/Leigh was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 307 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards in six consecutive games.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Parker Fitchner, who picked up 118 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and Griffin Nelson, who threw for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Clarkson/Leigh now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, Clarkson/Leigh will head out on the road to face off against David City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Scouts have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Newman Grove/St. Edward, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Madison at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
