East Wilkes has gone 9-1 against Alleghany recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cardinals will welcome the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (East Wilkes 14, Alleghany 14.7) so any points scored will be well earned.
East Wilkes' offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Starmount on Friday. They fell 7-0 to the Rams. The loss continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Rams: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Alleghany was able to grind out a solid victory over West Wilkes on Friday, taking the game 17-10. The 17-point effort marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
East Wilkes better keep an eye on John LeMasters. He was instrumental in Alleghany's win, rushing for 127 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries. LeMasters got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 88 yards.
One reason for the win was Alleghany's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by AJ Perong and CJ Caranza, who racked up four sacks between them. LeMasters got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Alleghany pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for East Wilkes, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. East Wilkes has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 265.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Alleghany struggles in that department as they've been averaging 240.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
East Wilkes didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Alleghany in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 13-7 victory. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
