Baseball Recap: Concrete Comes Up Short

Concrete had lost eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it nine. They came up short against the Friday Harbor Wolverines, falling 13-0. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by exactly 13 runs.

As for Friday Harbor, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Considering they have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Friday Harbor's part, Mason Smith and Floyd Holman made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Smith tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Holman kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Smith went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Holman went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Friday Harbor got a massive performance out of Joseph Holt, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Holt has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Will Youngsman, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Coming up, Concrete will face off against Quilcene at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Friday Harbor, they will take on Northwest Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Christian will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Friday Harbor surely won't give up without a fight.
