Basketball Game Preview: Penasco Panthers vs. Escalante Lobos

Penasco and Escalante are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2022, but not for long. The Penasco Panthers will head out to face off against the Escalante Lobos at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Penasco has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Penasco is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 62-19 victory over Escalante. The Panthers have beaten the Lobos the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Lobos has come to flipping the script.

Penasco can attribute much of their success to Alyssa Atencio, who posted 28 points, and Rochelle Lopez, who put up 18 points along with six assists and five steals. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jessica Mermejo, who had six points.

Penasco's win bumped their record up to 9-13. As for Escalante, their defeat was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-22.
