Baseball Recap: Gateway Wins Going Away Against Poinciana

Gateway posted their biggest win since February 27, 2024 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over the Poinciana Eagles. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 7-4 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Diego Vazqueztell was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Ian Colon was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Kaleb Bermudez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Gateway was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poinciana only posted a batting average of .211.

The win got Gateway back to even at 1-1. As for Poinciana, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Gateway will square off against Wekiva at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Poinciana, they will head out to square off against Liberty at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
