The Fairfield Mules will take on the Centralia Orphans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Fairfield 3.7, Centralia 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Centralia will be up against a hot Fairfield squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Mules sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over Norris City-Omaha-Enfield on Tuesday. Five seems to be a good number for the Mules as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jake Easton made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Caleb King looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
Easton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Logan Hodges, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. A Grieve was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Fairfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Norris City-Omaha-Enfield struck out eight times.
Marion hit Centralia with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Orphans took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 23, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Fairfield's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Centralia, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-10.
Fairfield might still be hurting after the 15-3 defeat they got from Centralia when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Mules avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
