Basketball Recap: Catskill Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Catskill won the last time they faced Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk and things went their way on Thursday too. The Catskill Cats managed a 40-35 victory over the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Indians. Given the Cats' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Indians are ranked 415th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rae Napierski, who posted eight points. Hayden Wolfe was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Catskill's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Catskill will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Coxsackie-Athens at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 45-33 win against Ichabod Crane on the 18th.
