Baseball Recap: Excel Find Success

Excel hadn't done well against Leroy recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Excel Panthers skirted past the Leroy Bears 5-3. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Bears back in February, they had to take a 13-9 defeat.

Trent Williams was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Excel's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Mason Goldman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Excel's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Leroy, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Excel Panthers challenge Hillcrest Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The game will give Hillcrest their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season. As for Leroy, they will take on Washington County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
