Auburn and Blacksburg are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. Auburn will venture away from home to take on Blacksburg at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Auburn will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Auburn's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Eastern Montgomery as Auburn made off with a 12-0 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by eight runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Ariel Mullins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Samantha Anderson, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Auburn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Blacksburg not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2024. They blew past Radford 16-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bruins.
Clara McMahon was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Aubrey Hudgins was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4. Katie Jones was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Blacksburg now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Auburn, their record is now 4-1.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Auburn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Blacksburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Auburn couldn't quite finish off Blacksburg when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Auburn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
