Basketball Recap: Dixie Hornets vs. Whitmire Wolverines
The Dixie Hornets were handed a two-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Whitmire Wolverines on Friday. Dixie blew past the Wolverines 48-16 on the road. That looming 48-16 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Dixie yet this season.
Dixie found their leader in underclassman Jaylia Turner, who scored 17 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Carter, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Dixie's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Whitmire, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dixie will take on the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Whitmire, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Saints at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (Thornwell is ranked 292nd, while the Wolverines are ranked 291st).
