Softball Preview: West Central Trojans vs. Kouts Mustangs & Fillies

West Central and Kouts are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The West Central Trojans will head out on the road to challenge the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Kouts is hoping to do on Thursday what Frontier couldn't on Tuesday: put an end to West Central's winning streak, which now stands at five games. West Central never let Frontier onto the board and left with a 20-0 victory. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win West Central has managed all season.

Jaden Erb was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Erb has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Erb was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, West Central got a massive performance out of Mara Sharpe, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs and a triple. Another player making a difference was Annika Smith, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and a triple.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kouts, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Argos on Wednesday as Kouts made off with a 14-2 victory.

West Central pushed their record up to 13-5 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Kouts, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

West Central skirted past Kouts 4-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2021. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Kouts' Cassidy Mills, who struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for West Central to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
