Volleyball Recap: Philip Barbour Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Herbert Hoover

Philip Barbour faced Herbert Hoover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Colts fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 2-1. If the Colts were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Huskies when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Philip Barbour sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 21-25, 15-6.

Izzy Knotts paced Philip Barbour's offense, picking up 12 kills. Knotts got some help from Finley Carpenter and her 16 assists. Finally, Knotts was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Leading Herbert Hoover to victory were Braelyn Adkins and Kylie Hackney. Adkins had 20 digs and two aces, while Hackney had nine digs and two aces. That's the most digs Adkins has posted since back in November of 2024. Lilli Lancaster was another key player, getting 15 assists and seven digs.

Philip Barbour has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-4-1 record this season. As for Herbert Hoover, their victory was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1-1.

Coincidentally, Philip Barbour and Herbert Hoover will both be playing Cabell Midland the next time they take the court. The Huskies will host the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Colts will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
