Basketball Recap: Hammond Morton Governors vs. East Chicago Central Cardinals
After flying high against Lake Central last Tuesday, Hammond Morton came back down to earth. The Hammond Morton Governors took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the East Chicago Central Cardinals. The Governors haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Hammond Morton lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Michael Woods, who went 6 of 9 en route to 19 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Holland Harris, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds.
Dominique Murphy was his usual excellent self, going 14 for 22 on his way to 34 points and seven boards for East Chicago Central. Murphy's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Keontaye Bell, who scored eight points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds.
Hammond Morton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for East Chicago Central, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
