Softball Recap: Fernley Now 14-2 over Last 16 Games

Fernley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Hug on Saturday. The Vaqueros never let the Hawks get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Considering the Vaqueros have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Taylor Tollestrup was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last 15 times she's played. Isabella Leija was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

Fernley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hug only posted an OBP of .182.

Fernley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Hug, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-19.

Coming up, Fernley will face off against South Tahoe at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.75 runs per game on average), something the Vaqueros will no doubt try to take advantage of. Hug does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
