Basketball Game Preview: Quitman Panthers vs. Morton Panthers

The Quitman Panthers will take on the Morton Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Quitman comes in on four and Morton on five.

Quitman is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Forest: they outscored them in every quarter. Quitman walked away with a 49-36 win over Forest on Tuesday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Quitman to victory, but perhaps none more so than KIARRA THOMPSON, who posted 15 points. That's the most points THOMPSON has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of TATIYONNA PITTMAN, who earned 12 points.

Meanwhile, Morton won against Northeast Jones on Friday with 55 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. Morton took down Mendenhall 55-36. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while the Tigers are ranked 121st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Morton's win came from a few key players Quitman will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mariona Boyd, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charity Beemon, who put up 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Morton pushed their record up to 14-5 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.4 points per game. As for Quitman, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Quitman and Morton were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but Quitman came up empty-handed after a 43-42 defeat.
