Baseball Recap: Hersey Continues Road Dominance on Saturday

Libertyville typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Hersey proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 7-3. This was payback for the Huskies, who suffered a 12-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Hersey got a great performance from Riley Blackwell as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Blackwell has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hersey let Chuck Meister and Brady Klehr run wild. Meister went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one double, while Klehr got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Klehr has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Sokan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Hersey's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-6-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs. As for Libertyville, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 27-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hersey will host Palatine at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Libertyville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Warren Township at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
