Football Recap: Montgomery Central Comes Up Short

Montgomery Central played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 40-16 to the Battle Creek Grizzlies. The Indians just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Montgomery Central lost, don't look at Malosi Laban. Despite the final result, he rushed for 84 yards and one TD. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Wesley Mobley, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Even if they lost, Montgomery Central's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Wade Greene, Caden McLean, and Logan Plouse, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Colten Barba had an outrageously good game for Battle Creek as he threw for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also rushed for 41 yards and one score. Jackson Wells did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 92 receiving yards.

Montgomery Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Battle Creek, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-5.

Coming up, Montgomery Central will welcome Marshall County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Battle Creek, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Spring Hill at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
