Basketball Recap: River Mill Jaguars vs. Williams Bulldogs
The River Mill Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight defeat. They fell 56-45 to Williams. While losing is never fun, River Mill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 589th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 286th).
River Mill's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Brown, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Will Jones was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Leading Williams to victory were Brian Williams and Milton Turner. Williams scored nine points along with eight rebounds and seven steals, while Turner dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Williams has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cavion Stokes, who scored nine points.
River Mill has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Williams, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
River Mill will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Clover Garden School will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. Williams will take on the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Eastern Alamance knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 15 games -- so hopefully the Bulldogs like a good challenge.
