Baseball Recap: Marshall Academy's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

It's playoff time, and Marshall Academy had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the St. Joseph Fighting Irish with a sharp 19-2 win on Tuesday. Considering the Patriots have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Colt Carpenter made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Phillip Sharpe was a standout: he scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Gage Todd was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.

Marshall Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Marshall Academy's fourth in a row) raised their record to 21-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Joseph, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

As of now, neither Marshall Academy nor the Fighting Irish have any future games scheduled.
