Basketball Recap: Girard Takes Down Humboldt in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Girard had no trouble coming through when it counted. They escaped with a win on Friday against the Humboldt Cubs by the margin of a single free throw, 50-49. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Trojans' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the Cubs are ranked 97th).

Humboldt lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tre Franklin, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 15 points. Avery Works was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Girard's win bumped their record up to 4-12-3. As for Humboldt, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-4.

As of now, neither Girard nor Humboldt have any future games scheduled.
