Basketball Recap: Smithsburg Comes Up Short

Smithsburg lost against North Hagerstown back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Smithsburg Leopards were outmatched by the North Hagerstown Hubs and fell 62-20. While losing is never fun, the Leopards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Hubs are ranked 44th).

North Hagerstown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brayden Cespedes out in front who went 5 for 6 on his way to 12 points. Landon Somerville was another key player, putting up nine points and four steals.

Smithsburg's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 0-2. As for North Hagerstown, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Smithsburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 72-37 loss against Williamsport on the 12th. As for North Hagerstown, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 92-27 victory against Catoctin on the 13th.
