Baseball Game Preview: Venture Academy Mustangs vs. River Islands Riptide

For the second straight game, Venture Academy will face off against River Islands. The Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Riptide at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Venture Academy is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak.

Venture Academy fell victim to River Islands and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to the Riptide.

For River Islands' part, Cassious (Cash) Orndoff made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Orndoff also tossed a walk, which is notable because River Islands is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4 otherwise. Orndoff was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Matthew Echivarre, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Devyn Kotecha, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

River Islands hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Venture Academy struck out 11 times.

The win made it two in a row for River Islands and bumps their season record up to 7-5. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 11 runs. As for Venture Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
